16 Feb 2012
Sale Sharks' owner Brian Kennedy has come to the aid of Stockport County by offering financial support to the Blue Square Premier football club to the value of £75,000.
The news was revealed in a statement from County Chairman Lord Peter Snape:
Stockport County FC Club Statement
During the last few months the board have been very active in looking to stabilise the financial basis of the football club, planning for its future in order to create a sustainable financial platform going forward.
Part of this plan involved new funding from existing and new shareholders and part of the plan involved assistance with cash flow, which is affecting many businesses at present. This started to take a concrete form in the last month with the appointment of Spencer Fearn and a further part with the lending facility created by SMBC with the great assistance of Councillor Goddard and his Council colleagues without whom this would not have happened.
In addition to this the board can now also announce that the club has also been approached by Cheshire Sports and Brian Kennedy during the last month looking to explore what assistance they could offer to help Stockport County in the short and longer term.
These discussions are still ongoing and there are many topics under review however the club are pleased to confirm that with immediate effect Cheshire Sports has suspended payment of all stadium occupancy costs of the club for a number of months. This support is to the sum of £75,000.
This will help alleviate the cash constraints being felt by the club and allows more time in which long term plans of the club can be developed.
The club will like to make public its thanks and appreciation to Brian Kennedy for this generous offer of assistance and marks a very clear confirmation of the commitment by Mr Kennedy to help the club. In placing its public thanks on record the board would like to ensure that all the supporters of Stockport County Football Club appreciate that this assistance has been offered without pre-condition, and makes a significant contribution to the welfare and success of the club.
We are also in discussions with Cheshire Sports and Brian Kennedy companies regarding further sponsorship arrangements.
