Kearnan, along with Luther Burrell, Hendrie Fourie and Scott Mathie, crossed the Pennines to join the Sharks from Leeds Carnegie. The second-row made his debut for the Yorkshire side, ironically against Sale, back in 2005/06 and went on to establish himself as a regular at Headingley. He won an England Saxons call-up last season and his form also brought him to the attention of both Leicester and Northampton, who were linked with a move for the 6ft 7in, 16st 8lbs powerhouse. A former Huddersfield YMCA player, Kearnan has also represented England Under-18s. On signing him, Steve Diamond said: "He is an established player and will add a lot to the squad. He is excellent in the line-out and has a great work ethic."
