Honours New Zealand
Recruited from Irish giants Munster along with prop Tony Buckley, Sam comes to Sale with a rich pedigree. Born in Auckland, he was a World Cup winner with New Zealand's Under-21s and has gone on to receive nine caps from the All Blacks. He also won the Super 14s crown with the Blues along with the Air New Zealand Cup with Auckland before moving to Worcester four years ago. His explosive pace and power made 'Hacksaw Sam' a huge favourite at Sixways before he crossed the Irish Sea in the summer of 2010 to join Munster following Worcester's relegation. He made a big impact there and after signing him, Steve Diamond said: "Sam is a great signing for us. He has a great workrate and is very strong in the contact area."
Sam was appointed Sharks' club captain for 2011-12.
