Jets starting up in Birkenhead

Cheshire County Cup holders Sale Jets will begin the defence of their title on The Wirral against one of the county's oldest names - Birkenhead Park. After beating Stockport last August, The Jets overcame two promoted teams, Macclesfield and Lymm, to capture the trophy at the first attempt.

Young Academy stars finish in style

The Sale Sharks Academy Under-15 side brought their season to a terrific finish when they beat Leicester, Worcester, Leeds, Northampton and Newcastle in the Academy Northern Conference Tournament at Broadstreet. They scored 16 tries in five short-time games and conceded just four. Six of the squad will be selected to the England Academies Under-16 camp at Leeds Carnegie over the Summer (out of 30 places from 13 Academies). "Along with the Jets winning the Cheshire Cup, and our Academy Colleges 1st year side winning the BCS Non-Elite trophy against Bristol's Academy College Filton, we have have had a nice successful end to our season," commented Academy Coach Phil Leck.

Jets capture Cheshire Cup

Sale Jets beat North One West champions Lymm 34-13 in a highly entertaining game at Crouchley Lane to capture the Cheshire RFU Cup at the first time of asking. The home side made life difficult for the talented young visitors, holding the Jets to 3-3 until the 36th minute. Pete Anglesea's side eased away from a 10-3 half time lead, then had the better of the exchanges after the break against spirited opponents who never gave up.

Good news for Academy duo as Final date looms

As the club's younger players prepared for the Cheshire RFU Cup Final against Lymm on Wednesday (kick off 7.00 p.m.), there was good news for two of the squad - Tommy Bell and Mark Jennings - who have been named in the England Under-18 party for the tour of South Africa in July. Congratulations to Tommy (brother of Chris) and Mark, who comes from Lymm. Both featured in England's win against Australia at Heywood Road last December.

Jets just two points short of the Tigers

In their final Guinness 'A' League match this season, Sale Jets lost 24-26 at Heywood Road to an experienced Tigers team, who duly topped the Northern group. Both sides scored four tries apiece. Although the Jets held a 10-7 half time lead, three Tiger tries within a twelve minute spell settled the game, although the home side replied in spirited fashion. Chris Bell returned from injury, played the first half and reported no ill effects.

Sale Jets faced Northampton Wanderers at Franklins' Gardens today in a Guinness 'A' League match, fading in the game's latter stages and ending up on the wrong end of a 47-17 scoreline.

Jets end a point clear of Warriors

Sale Jets beat Worcester Warriors 23-22 tonight at Heywood Road in the Guinness 'A' League. The visitors raced into a 12-0 lead within the first eight minutes, but the Sale youngsters clawed their way back to a 16-15 half time scoreline. Jack Turton scored a fine individual try, converted by Mark Atkinson, to extend the home lead, but a fine converted effort from James Freeman pegged the Jets back to one point again. Both sides tried drop goals near the end but couldn't change the scoreboard.

Sale Jets fell victim to a first half blitz against Leeds Carnegie in tonight's Guinness 'A' League game at West Park, trailing 26-8 at the break. After an early penalty by Jordan Davies, fly half Will Cliff scored an excellent try.

Sale Jets gained revenge for their recent defeat in Colwyn Bay by beating RGC 1404 21-19 at Heywood Road. In a fast and furious game played on a dry, grassy pitch, Adam Birchall scored the decisive try with two minutes of normal time left.

After it was announced this week that 19 year old Sale Sharks’ Jet, Lee Imiolek, will be making his first start for England Under 20s against Ireland in the RBS Six Nations this Friday, Kingsley Jones said, “I’ll go out on a limb now and say, he’s a potential future Captain for Sale Sharks”.
