Education with Sale Sharks Academy

While every young player would like to become a professional, it is vital that they continue some form of education and build their ‘safety net’. Sale Sharks Academy encourages players to continue their education wherever possible and dependent upon their personal situation.

We have established links with a number of education providers within our area. This ensures our players maintain a balanced perspective between their rugby and life after rugby.

In addition, all players will attend personal development sessions in various subjects to aid their individual understanding of life balance, such as time management, media training, goal setting, drug awareness and communication. We also work closely with the Rugby Players Association (RPA) to ensure the player receives as much support as possible.

There are two options that players can take at between the age of 16 – 18 with regards to their studies:

1) AS /A Levels at any school or college.
2) Selected players may study the Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence at an RFU Academy College.

For players aged 18 – 21, Sale Sharks Academy support selected players who wish to attend university whilst pursuing a professional rugby career. When players go to university they are invited to train in between their studies at our Carrington training ground with our senior squads.

Please note that you do not need to be an England Academy Student to be invited onto the AASE scheme however the AASE inclusion is by invite from the Academy only.
