About the Community Trust

Sharks Community

The Sharks Community Trust was formed in July 2011, with the aim of being better able to support and expand the community activities undertaken by the club and its players. The Sharks Community Trust, together with the Sale Sharks brand, professional players and high quality staff, aims to engage and challenge children and young people to lead an active, healthy and rewarding lifestyle.

There are several local and national programmes that the Trust is actively involved with. All the programmes are run in conjunction with various partners such as the Rugby Football Union, Cheshire County RFU, and Lancashire County RFU, local authorities, national agencies and commercial sponsors. The programmes cover topics such as healthy eating, anti-bullying, numeracy and Rugby Skills development.

A key objective of the Trust is to tackle social, health and economic barriers to participation in sport. This is done through various programmes involving anti-bullying, drink awareness, numeracy, healthy-eating and skill development. This Autumn, The Trust is starting a new inclusion programme, called Hitz. This programme is relatively new and will be based within the inner city of Manchester, targeting young people at risk of exclusion and anti-social behaviour. Introducing them to tag, touch and contact rugby; we will utilise rugby's unique ethos and the assets of the sport's leading brands and players.

The Trust also looks to assist other charities;

  • The Christie, a specialist NHS hospital who care for cancer patients.
  • Brainwave, who work with families to deliver home based therapy and exercise programmes that help children with disabilities and developmental delay.
  • Wooden Spoon, the Children's charity of Rugby by supporting their activities and assisting their fundraising and PR programmes.

Sharks Community Trust would not be able to achieve its objectives without funding; one way we raise money to enable us to deliver these programmes is to hold fund raising events, charity donations and sponsorship.
