Sale Sharks in Manchester Primary Schools

12/10/06 Tag Rugby Fever Hits Manchester Primary Schools
Since September, the Sale Sharks community team have been coaching tag rugby in 16 primary schools in central Manchester with the help of McAfee and Sportsmatch. Each school receives 5 weeks of tag rugby coaching followed by an invitation to play in a tag rugby festival due to be held at Broughton Park Rugby Club (Hough End Playing Fields) on Wednesday 18th October.
St Francis RC Primary School in Gorton have been one of the schools Sale Sharks have been coaching in. Miss Kendal's year 6 class have really enjoyed the tag rugby sessions and some of the children have shown real potential to become great rugby union players of the future.
Sharky made a flying visit to the school and was a huge hit with the children - although the locals of Gorton seemed a little confused as to why there was a 6 foot fish walking about the area.
If your school would like to receive tag rugby coaching from Sale Sharks in your local primary school after Christmas call the community team on 0161 286 8888 ext 268 or drop an email to john.acheson@salesharks.co.uk
St Johns Primary, Chorlton
St John's Primary School in Chorlton is one of 16 schools currently receiving expert rugby coaching from our community team.
Each school is receiving 5 weeks of 'tag rugby' coaching, where they will learn the skills needed to play in a tournament against each other
at the end of the programme.
Our Sharks community coach Jonny Acheson was very impressed with the skill level of some of the children.
'Considering many of the children had never even picked up a rugby ball before, they have quickly taken to the game.
It will be a very exciting tournament, and I will be keeping a close eye on any future Sale Sharks players'
