It's been a busy few weeks at HITZ Manchester, as it's close to the end of the academic year and many of our learners have already progressed or have progressions in place.
Alongside the brilliant work our learners have been doing, we have had the pleasure of establishing strong links with a number of local businesses/initiatives: Manchester Street Angels, Martin Robert-Hall (I2I), Barclays and Capita.
Martin Robert Hall Visit
On 17th June, Martin from I2I visited our learners to deliver a motivational workshop, it was a great event and we all felt very privileged to have Martin visit us as he has worked with many high profile athletes and sports clubs. He delivered a workshop focusing on motivation and being the best you can be, all our learners were completely engaged and we all left feeling very motivated! Big thanks to Martin for his time! You can learn a little more about Martin and I2I by visiting their website.
Capita & Barclays Sports Engagement Event
On the 25th June HITZ Manchester and HITZ Carrington joined forces and organized a sports engagement event in partnership with Barclays and Capita.
It was a great event, set up to showcase our strong relationship with Barclays and learn more about the traineeship progression opportunities Capita can offer to our learners. The day started with introductions from all the visitors and a presentation on what capita offer and a few success stories. Following that we ran an informal employability skills session, identifying key skills employers look for throughout the recruitment process and interview skills and techniques.
The day ended with a sports and team building activity that all staff and learners took part in to help break down the barriers and perceptions that our learners sometimes have of people in suits and authority. It was great to see the learners and staff working together and abolishing pre conceived ideas they may have had.
The day finished with a chance for learners to register for the traineeships opportunities and to enjoy some light refreshments. 6 learners from HITZ Manchester signed up for the traineeship, five of those are currently on programme and 1 had gained full time employment.
Manchester Street Angels launched in November 2014. They are a non for profit charity volunteer group that was set up after the tragic death of Adam Pickup. After seeing too many vulnerable people suffer in the city centre over the past few years they thought it was vital that a project like them were out there helping keep Manchester safe. They offer first aid and support on Friday nights 10-2am to vulnerable people who may be intoxicated, lost their friends, need help getting home, advice or just something as simple as directions.
The HITZ Manchester officer, Scott Briggs had the opportunity to chaperone the angels on one of their patrols last month to see what they do first hand and explore the possibility of the volunteering opportunities for our learners. All Angels are trained in First Aid, conflict training, sexual exploitation, counter terrorism, suicide intervention/first responder and radio training. They have around 50 volunteers on their books currently aged 18-72 years old.
MSA are always on the lookout for volunteers and any sponsors that are willing to support. If you're interested in joining MSA or would like any more info, you can contact them via Rachel or Nikki or simply check out their website.
HITZ Manchester is always looking to work with more business/initiatives in order to open up opportunities for our learners. If you are interested in helping out or can offer any opportunities for our learners please feel free to email Scott Briggs or on 07525 857 188.
Over the next few days we will be previewing the huge head-to-head battles in this Saturday's Aviva Premiership game against Exeter Chiefs. First up we are going to look at the battle at scrum half between Chris Cusiter and Will Chudley.
