The Irish have undergone big changes on and off the field during the Summer, with Brian Smith in charge at The Madejski again. After a three defeat start, the Irish pulled off a 29-22 home win against Bath, then suffered a 35-11 loss at Worcester before surprising everybody with a bonus point 39-17 win against Northampton Saints.
England centre Jonathan Joseph was a constant threat against the Saints with his electric acceleration and changes of direction. He scored one of the Irish's four tries and laid on two others. Alongside his colleagues Topsy Ojo, Marlon Yarde and Sailosi Tagicakibau, the Irish raids came in from far and wide. The traditionally strong pack were well served by the back row of Garvey, Gibson and Treviranus.
The deadly kicking boots of Steven Shingler and Tom Homer are ready to penalise any misdemeanours. Watch out for an early firework display between two sides who need points at the lower end of the table.
