Sale Sharks U18 managed to get a win over Newcastle Falcons U18s, winning 29-15 at Carrington Training Centre on Sunday afternoon.
The home side managed to score five tries, with full-back Alex Mitchell scoring twice, Ali Crossdale getting two tries, and Charlie Venables crossing for the other.
Speaking after the game, Academy coach Brendan Thomas revealed he was happy with the sides victory: "It was a very pleasing performance. I thought we managed the game well in the first half in terms of possession. We took an opportunity really early on in the game which was pleasing aswell.
"The Falcons try galvanised the side and they fought back well to secure the win. It was a much improved performance from our first game against Worcester.
"Ali Crossdale's first try was great to watch, it came off a set-piece move and there was some great handling from forwards & backs, especially from Max Davies." He added: "The interplay for Alex Mitchell's second try was very pleasing aswell."
David Wilks, another of the Academy coaches, spoke about how pleased he was with his side, in particular the forwards: "Our set-piece improved considerably from our first game and really has progressed so I am really happy in the way it has progressed over the last few weeks."
When asked for standout performances, Brendan said: "I thought Alex Mitchell played well, and Ali Crossdale did superb playing out of position on the wing as he usually plays fly-half or full-back. Our captain Matt Postlethwaite led the team well."
Wilks added: "Those three did have a good game, but I also thought that Ben Curry did well for us, as did Harry Blackwell. I also thought that Mark Dixon at fly-half controlled the game very well."
The U18s next game is on the 4th January when they take on Leicester Tigers and Brendan said: "Our next few games will be very tough for us, however this win gives us a good position to go into the matches."
