Meet Adam Grainger The Man Who Trains The Sharks Players

Adam or 'Flinger' as he is affectionately known is in his third year with Sale Sharks, working within the high performance team as the Performance Manager. This is Adam's tenth season working in Premiership rugby, having previously worked for both Saracens and London Wasps (winning the Premiership in 2008).Northern Irish by birth, Adam left Belfast in 1999 to complete a year teaching in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand, before embarking on five years study at Brunel University, where he obtained a BSc and Masters in Sports Science. Having worked for Steve Diamond previously at Saracens and Russian Rugby, it was an easy decision to move his family to Sale Sharks and take on a new challenge.Adam's main responsibilities at Sale Sharks include leading the physical preparation of the players and managing their training load. Players are monitored regularly regards well-being, hydration, training volume, recovery and optimal performance. Within the training weeks players are regularly tested upon body fat, strength, speed and power. In addition Adam manages the internship programme at Sale Sharks and leads the club in innovative practices to keep the club at the forefront of high performance sports science support.??
In July 2013 Adam began his PhD at Salford University, researching neuromuscular fatigue in rugby union. As a keen amateur triathlete it is Adam's ambition to complete an ironman triathlon and test his personal physical limits.
