Following the defeat to Newcastle Falcons on Friday evening, Director of Rugby Steve Diamond faced the press and gave an honest appraisal of the evenings events.
"We're naturally disappointed," said Diamond. "I felt first half we had a lot of ball and we just couldn't do stuff with it.
"We got a try in the corner and we just couldn't get away from Newcastle. Second half I thought they were a far better, streetwise team than ourselves. They didn't allow us to play and a couple of decisions went against us, but that's how it goes.
"We're thoroughly disappointed but I think on their second half performance they deserved the win.
"We expect our kickers to be at high percentages, he [Nick Macleod] had a bit of an off day in that department, but tight games are won and lost on the kicks and Newcastle won it tonight with having more accurate kickers and being a little bit more streetwise in the game.
"I think we did well in the scrum last week and in the driving maul We showed in the first half we can get the driving maul going but Newcastle put us to ground in the second half and we couldn't get out set piece scrum and if you give six penalties away at the scrum you won't win many games.
So we will look at that in practice and see if we can rectify it.
"They came to get a win if not a losing bonus point and in the end they got a win and we have to deal with that.
"There's a bit of dented pride and we'll wipe ourselves down and we have an opportunity next Friday to get rid of this result."
