The first player to visit Ellesmere Port was a young man named Luther Burrell who at the time had just joined Sale Sharks; he spoke of his ambition to play for England. Other players to visit have included former England International Hendre Fourie, Marc Jones and most recently Sam Tuitupou came to Ellesmere Port for the Junior Christmas Party.
We were also delighted to welcome Head Coach Bryan Redpath to the club for an evening. He opened Ellesmere Port's new premium pitch and entertained a packed lounge with a Q and A session.
The Sharks Connections partnership has allowed some of the club's youngest players to walk out on the pitch to take part in half time tag matches on more than one occasion. Our Juniors have also accompanied Sale Sharks team onto the pitch as Sharky's Dream Team, at Edgeley Park and the AJ Bell Stadium.
With Ellesmere Port RUFC and Sale Sharks' close association the Primary Schools of Ellesmere Port were given the opportunity to participate in the Aviva Premiership Rugby Schools programme. The programme delivered expert coaching to Year 3 children and culminated in a tag rugby tournament held at the home of Ellesmere Port RUFC. This introduced a number of children to rugby for the first time and the club was able to enroll some of those taking part.
Ellesmere Port hosted one of Sale Sharks Rugby Camps in October 2013. A team of Community Coaches from Sale Sharks including Hendre Fourie spent three days coaching the youngsters at the camp. Some of the attendees couldn't stop smiling after receiving a forwards coaching session from Hendre and Tony Buckley; we look forward to being able to host more camps in the future.
One of the most entertaining times spent with Sale Sharks was when we were asked to host A Question of Sharks, one of Sale Sharks Supporters Club's social evenings. Will Cliff, Tommy Taylor, Ross Harrison and Josh Beaumont were able to beat the Ellesmere Port RUFC team. A fun night of banter, sporting challenges and even a bit of knowledge; we look forward to getting our revenge next time!
Sale Sharks Community Trust have supported Ellesmere Port RUFC with a number of community initiatives to develop the game of rugby in the Ellesmere Port area. Players, Coaches, Parents and Officials of Ellesmere Port RUFC would like to thank the Community Team, especially Helen Stuart, for all their support and we look forward to working together in the future.
