3 Reasons Why We Love The Heineken Cup

Tuesday, October 6th 2009

From today until Sale Sharks v Cardiff Blues on Friday 16th October 09, Sale Sharks will be revealing 15 reasons why the Heineken Cup is the Best Club Rugby Tournament in the World. Keep visiting the Sale Sharks’ website each day to find out the latest reason you should take part in the Heineken Cup this season.

1. Passion of the supporters getting behind their home clubs.

For Sale Sharks, The Heineken Cup gave us our first ever sell out in December 2003 against Cardiff Blues, where Sale Sharks won 26-24 with Charlie Hodgson’s drop goal in the last minute. The supporters and players always seem to bring extra passion to the occasion when they are wearing the shirt of their home club, and that magic transfers out onto the pitch creating an atmosphere like no other in world sport.

2. The 2009/10 tournament will see its 10 millionth fan through the turnstiles.

Playing in the Heineken Cup is one of the true highlights of the career of any player in world rugby. Players and coaches alike anticipate the start of this great tournament and the challenge of testing themselves against the very best. And with the Heineken Cup that is exactly what you get, the best club rugby tournament in Europe.

3. Three matches will be played live at Edgeley Park this season.

There is something extra special about not just playing against (and with) the world’s best players, but playing them on their home patch at places like Toulouse, Cardiff, Twickenham Stoop and Edgeley Park. Sale Sharks will be playing 3 Heineken Cup matches live at Edgeley Park this 2009/10 Season.

For English clubs, the Heineken Cup is extra special because our qualification must be earned. Sale Sharks earned its place in the tournament through the performances last season, and the team is desperate to make the most of the opportunity to challenge for every available point and earn a place in the knock-out stages. The benchmark of our club is Heineken Cup qualification each and every season. Simply put, playing in the tournament is a privilege that we just don’t want to give up.

We have three great games coming up at Edgeley Park: Cardiff Blues on Fri. 16th October, Harlequins on Sun. 20th December and Toulouse on Fri. 22nd January. We hope you will come down to support the team on these big occasions and to enjoy some of the magic of the Heineken Cup. To be a part of the best club rugby tournament in the world and support Sale Sharks, book online now.
