James Flynn has said that he is thriving on the changes at Carrington as the academy lads are starting their pre-season training.
Flynn made 11 appearances in the first team last season, and he is determined to beat that number heading into the new campaign.
He said: "I'm actually really enjoying pre-season! The structure is a bit different here now, with new Heads of Strength & Conditioning, and it's a nice change.
"All the sessions have changed, it's a lot more professional now, focussing on getting us right for the rest of pre-season, and raring into the season. All the boys have been training really hard, and you can see we've all been working hard in the off-season, to get ready for pre-season, because we're all fighting for that shirt at the end of the day. I think it's going well, the next four/five weeks we'll be training a lot harder, and then we get a bit of time off.
"Every now and again, we do need a bit of a switch up with training because if you do the same thing day in day out for two years or so, your bodies need a change to stimulate progress. New coaches bring new ideas and methods and the boys are taking to it quite well."
Flynn will be competing against Ross Harrison and Eifion Lewis Roberts for the starting spot, and he is excited for the challenge ahead: "Competition brings out the best in everyone, so I'm just going to do my best and prove to Dimes and the rest of coaching staff that I deserve a bit more game time, and if I get a chance, take it.
"A lot of the young lads in the squad are local lads, we've supported Sale since we've been playing rugby and it's nice to be in it together.
"We all want to play for Sale, and that's what it takes when you are all training together, you're all looking and working towards the same goal."
He congratulated his three teammates, Mike Haley, Ross Harrison and Sam James, who are currently with the England Saxon side: "It shows what you can do, and where I want to be in the next few years. I want to try and follow in their footsteps. If you have a good season, it shows you where you can get - you've just got to take your chances. I hope to do the same."
He added: "The takeover of the club is exciting. It shows that everyone has a chance. It's driving us all toward the same goal - that top four spot in the Premiership, and we're striving to do well in Europe this year too. Change is very good, I'm excited to see where the season takes us."
