Thursday, March 4th 2010
SaleSharks.com previews five Northampton Saints game-breakers to watch at Sale Sharks Guinness Premiership match this Sunday 7th March at Edgeley Park, kick-off 2.30PM.
1. Ignacio Fernández Lobbe , the Argentinean 17st 6lb lock with a 6' 5" with bags of experience is a real dominant force in the line outs. Lobbe played for Sale Sharks from 2005 – 2008 and was a key part of the pack; driving forward momentum and providing a powerful platform for attack. Since the start of the 2008 season at Saints, Lobbe has made 45 appearances. He’s also a veteran of three World Cups and has over 60 caps for Argentina.
2. Bruce Reihana is Saints’ Kiwi full back. Since his debut in September 2002, Reihana has played 198 matches and scored 79 tries, racking up a total of 989 for his club. Reihana has been Saints Player of the Year and should be watched this Sunday for his tactical skill in scooping some outstanding tries.
3. Chris Mayor is another ex-Shark who transferred to Saints for the 2008/09 season. Mayor is a creative centre whose pace makes him an asset on the wing. Strong in defence and attack, Mayor has a fearless approach breaching defences. Chris is a former England Under-21 and Sevens international who has tasted success at the highest level, winning the 2006 Guinness Premiership with Sale Sharks.
4. Paul Diggin has made 92 appearances and has scored a total of 39 tries for the Saints since his debut at the start of the 2003/04 season. Diggin is a speedy 5’8’’ wing and has a good eye for a try opportunity, becoming the club's leading try scorer. Don’t underestimate Diggin: speed and agility are his forte.
5. Stephen Myler is Northampton’s fly-half. His deft handling skills, superb tactical awareness and great kicking making the fly half spot his own. Myler has scored an outstanding 616 points for the Saints since his debut in September 2006 and was the top points scorer in the 2008/09 European Challenge Cup. His outstanding performance was rewarded by being included into the England Saxons squad in 2009.
