Chris Bell blasts through Bath's defence
Bell returns to go head to head with former club
Friday, November 20th 2009
Centre players are in short supply for Sale Sharks at the moment, but former Leeds Carnegie player Chris Bell returns from injury to face his old team mates at Headingley this Sunday.
Director of Rugby, Kingsley Jones’, team selection for Sharks Guinness Premiership match against Leeds Carnegie has been boosted by the return of centres Chris Bell and Lee Thomas.
Back just in the nick of time, Bell and Thomas will cover the injuries in the Sale Sharks created by Samoan centre Andy Tuilagi who faces up to four months on the sidelines after breaking his arm in last Friday's Test against Wales, and Jonny Kennedy who will be sidelined for a month with ankle ligament damage.
Bell has played in three Guinness Premiership matches and subbed two so far this season, scoring a try.
Looking ahead to Leeds Carnegie this Sunday, Chris Bell commented, “I’m really looking forward to going back to my old club. It’s been a place I’ve had a lot of good times at and it’ll be nice to run out at Headingley on a different side from a different changing room. I’m definitely looking forward to playing. For us to win against Leeds at Headingley will mean a lot to me”.
This season the Guinness Premiership is proving to be very tight competition. Bell comments, “One week you can beat one team, then the next week play the same team and you can come unstuck. We know we’re going to be up against it on Sunday. Leeds Carnegie are a quality outfit, as is every team in the Premiership.
Sale Sharks currently sit 7th in the Guinness Premiership with thirteen points. Bell admits, “Sale Sharks are looking for consistency. This year has been a far higher quality in the Premiership than in years gone past. I think if you are consistently good week in week out, you’ll get the results.
“For our season so far, we’ve hit some really good highs but we’ve also had a couple of lows. We need to try and get our performances to a stable level and then we will move up the table. This weekend we will have to really address our game and make sure we perform to our best.”
