Marc Jones - extended contract

Marc Jones - extended contract

James Gaskell & Marc Jones sign to stay

Thursday, February 4th 2010

Sale Sharks are delighted to announce that two of their young players, James Gaskell and Marc Jones, have signed extensions to their contracts.

James (19) has signed for a further two years, which will keep him at the club at least until July 2013. He has played at flanker this season, in addition to his accustomed position at lock. During his short career, James had played for the first team on 23 occasions, 8 as replacement, scoring four tries. He played for England's Under 20 team in the IRB Tournament in Japan last Summer, and is currently away with the squad ready to face Wales at Gloucester tomorrow.

James said, "I'm very pleased to sign this contract extension, and want to build on what I've done this season at Sale Sharks. I aim to keep performing well for the first team."

Director of Rugby Kingsley Jones added, "James is a fantastic talent with huge potential. I didn't expect him to be where he is right now, but he's always been in my plans to give him first-team rugby. Every time he's taken the chance, he's made it very difficult to leave him out of the side. We're conscious of not pushing him too hard too soon; we'll keep working on his strengths and develop his natural talent."

Kingsley continued, "Marc has signed an extension to 2012. We were excited to have him as a young player. He's fully committed to the club and epitomises what we're about. He works hard and I'm sure he'll be a full Welsh international one day.

Marc Jones (22) plays at hooker, and was capped by Wales at Under-20 level. He made his debut at Northampton in 2006 and has played 39 games for the Sharks, eighteen from the bench.

Marc said, "Obviously, it's great to be signing and committing myself to the club for two more seasons. I've thoroughly enjoyed the five years I've been at the club. This will take me up to the age of 25. I really enjoy Manchester and love playing for Sale Sharks."
