Fellow Northerner’s Leeds Carnegie return to Edgeley Park this Friday 13th November for round two of the 2009/10 LV= Cup. Director of Rugby, Andy Key, leads a side growing with strength week by week, particularly with Leeds’ 2008/09 Player of the Year, Hendre Fourie, 2008/09 Supporters’ Player of the Year, Leigh Hinton, and fly half Cieron Thomas.

Presently bottom of the table for the Guinness Premiership, we should not be fooled by their position. With two successive wins against London Wasps 15-9 and Leicester Tigers 28-17 in the last couple of weeks, Leeds Carnegie are fighting hard for victory this season.

Since Sale Sharks 37-21 victorious debut against Leeds Carnegie in the Zurich Premiership on 8th November 2003, the Sharks have won every match against the Northern brutes; ten to be exact. Sale Sharks last encounter with Leeds saw the Sharks win 38 – 29 the Friendly at Edgeley Park on the 22nd August 2008.

Leeds Carnegie returned to the Guinness Premiership this season after winning the 2009 title in the second-tier National Division One. This highlights the fourth consecutive year that Leeds have either been promoted or relegated: relegated from the Premiership as bottom finishers in 2006, promoted as National Division One champions in 2007, and relegated again from the Premiership in 2008.

With a shaky start to the 2009/10 season Leeds Carnegie have upped their game by beating 28-17 Leicester Tigers in round one of the LV= Cup. Sale Sharks are desperate for a win at Edgeley Park this Friday and to retain their winning streak against Leeds Carnegie.
