The future is solid for Sale Sharks - Dean Schofield

Team Captain, Dean Schofield, reflects on the young side that played against Toulouse last weekend, “The team’s performance was really encouraging. They scored two cracking tries and showed that they have no fear at all.”

This is the first season to see many of the Jets join the first team. One being James Gaskell, at just 19 years old, has played every game so far this season. Reflecting on his performance this season, Gaskell said, “I’ve been very fortunate to be selected to play for the first team by Kingsley and the other coaching staff and I’ve just tried to take the opportunity and tried to improve every game. Kingsley said this would be a game that I would remember for the rest of my life. I think I will remember it! 30,000 people in Toulouse!

Commenting on tomorrow’s game against Cardiff Blues Gaskell said, “We’ve always said we want to win our home games and we’re focused heavily on this one on making sure we get a win. All the lads are raring to get on the pitch.”

Kingsley Jones took a bold approach to picking the team for the Toulouse game. Jones commented, “I wanted to create the best opportunity for both games by resting some players and getting a younger team to play at Toulouse. You’ll see on Friday, if we get the right result, if it was a good strategy.”

Looking forward to tomorrow’s game Kingsley said, “There is no magic tool to win against Cardiff Blues. Because some players have had a rest, it doesn’t mean we’re going to beat Cardiff Blues. We will have a tough challenge on our hands but we feel we’ve done everything we can to give our side the best chance of winning this game Friday night”.
