Local boy Chris has been a mainstay in the Sale Sharks matchday squad since making his first-team debut against Narbonne in 2001.
Memorably nicknamed the ‘Flying Emu’, Chris is another of the bright young things at Sale to have developed into an impressive international performer.
Happy at either lock or in the back row, within two years of his Sharks debut Chris had been nominated for the PRA Young Player of the Year award, become an integral part of the England Sevens squad and made his England debut against the Barbarians.
His first full international cap followed in the 2004 Six Nations and he marked the occasion with a try against Italy, showing the potential he had exhibited at Sale.
Gangly when he broke through, the former Stockport Grammar School pupil has filled out since but has not lost any of his pace and remains a huge line-out threat.
In each of the last five seasons he has made 20 or more appearances in all competitions and has taken his tally of Guinness Premiership appearances over 125. |
