One of the few Spaniards playing top-class pro rugby, Oriol joined the Sharks early in 2005 after a previous spell in the English top-flight with Northampton and made his debut for Sale in the Premiership game against London Irish.
Part of the Spanish Sevens side that famously beat England at the 2001 World Cup, the man given the nickname ‘Raspberry’ (Raspberry ‘Ripol’) by Sale fans has gone on to become a valuable squad member, particularly during international windows.
Happy either on the wing or at full-back, although the former is his primary position, Oriol increased his try tally season-on-season in his first three seasons at Sale, but had to be content with just two scores from 12 appearances last season.
Blessed with great pace but also strong defensively for a man of his size, the Catalan flier generates a great buzz when he picks up the ball and is another kicking option. |
