A former Greater Manchester basketball player, David is a ‘hometown boy made good’ who joined the Sharks in 2005 straight from Sedburgh School.
Raised in a sporting family, his father played rugby for Yorkshire, the 22-year-old played for England Under-19s ‘a year ahead’ and was also a silver medallist in the Commonwealth Youth Games in Australia in 2004.
Primarily a pacy, tough-tackling back-row, David’s Sharks debut was abridged when he took to the field only to be immediately withdrawn when it was realised a prop was needed, but he eventually made the starting XV that faced Llanelli two months later.
A summer trip to New Zealand 12 months ago broadened his skills as under former All Black Jason O’Halloran he trained as a centre in a trip funded by the SSSC.
The 14 appearances he made last season for the Sharks is the most he has made in one campaign, with his two tries trebling his previous tally! |
