The combative Chris Jones in action Early exchanges were even, Sharks scoring first when a long pass from Chabal was helped on by Rhys Jones to England wing Mark Cueto, who sliced through to score under the posts, Mike Hercus converting. The Tigers applied the pressure, reducing the arrears with a drop goal by form fly-half Andy Goode on the quarter hour mark. Two minutes later, after a Tigers' lineout offence, Hercus slotted home a low-trajectory penalty to restore the Sharks' seven-point advantage. The ZP leaders simply stepped up the gas, and, aided and abetted by some errors from the Sharks, then scored 28 points without reply before the interval, to put the game beyond the Sharks' reach. A saving tackle by Jason Robinson on Martin Johnson briefly held back the home surge, but the Sharks defence was breached on 24 minutes when Moody finished off a typical Tigers drive. Four minutes later, a Hercus kick ahead went through the in-goal area, and play was brought back to the Sharks' own half. The confident Tigers kicked for position, and after a lineout which eluded everybody, Moody shipped the ball to Lloyd for the home team's second try, on the half hour. Disaster followed three minutes later when a Redpath pass was intercepted by Goode, who sprinted clear for a gift try. The home No.10 was held up three minutes later, but the incessant pressure told again when Leicester's bonus-point try came from former Lions skipper Johnson a minute before the break. Goode was on top form, converting all four of the tries during this 'blitz'. Ten minutes into the second period, Goode and Murphy released Alesana Tuilagi for a fifth crossing, Goode converting. Sheridan was held up before, on 54 minutes, Chabal released Cueto for his second try of the afternoon out wide. After 57 minutes, following a burst by scrum-half Bemand, the ball passed through several pairs of Tiger hands before Varndell went over in the corner. Such was Goode's accuracy that the conversion never looked like veering off target. Amazingly, the remaining 26 minutes of action were scoreless. The Sharks' best effort came when debutant David Blair kicked accurately, with the outside of his left foot, to put Varndell under pressure. The marauding Cueto ripped the ball away, but the Sharks' No.14 was denied a hat trick of tries by a touch judge's flag, although a penalty was also awarded to the Tigers. Forwards Graham Rowntree and Chris Jones were separately sent to the 'sin bin' during the last quarter; neither returned. England winger Mark Cueto was one of the Sharks' few successes. Ignacio Fernandez Lobbe made his presence felt after coming on with 59 minutes played, but it was a disappointing day for the Sharks as they slipped out of the 'top three' for the first time this season. Scoring sequence: (Tigers first) 0-7, 3-7, 3-10, 10-10, 17-10, 24-10, 31-10 (Half time) 38-10, 38-15, 45-15. Man of the Match: Mark Cueto
