The Jets were penalised twice within the first three minutes, the second being Leicester's first score, a penalty by Cornwell for not releasing. The same offence was the cause of the Jets' equalising penalty three minutes later by Shepherd.
After a saving tackle by Royle on Lewington, the floodgates opened as the Tigers ran in five tries within a fifteen minute spell. The first, on 10 minutes , was an interception run home by Forsyth, followed by a dash from former Shark Mathew Tait four minutes later, when he grounded a grubber kick from Cornwell.
Two minutes later, Young dived over for try three, although there appeared to be a shade of obstruction off the ball in the build up. Cornwell was off target with all three conversion attempts from out wide.
The disparity of experience between the two sets of forwards had become evident by this stage, and after a Tigers' lineout drive, Lewington went over near the posts on 23 minutes. Cornwell added the extras. Two minutes later came try five, when Lewington chased his own kick ahead down the wing to score. Cornwell again converted.
Sale Jets never gave up but were constantly faced by an irresistible light blue tide. After a rare Jets' foray towards the visiting posts, another lengthy Tigers attack followed with locks Andrew and Deacon prominent. Inevitably, the pressure told when the ball was sent out right for Purdy to score. On the stroke of half time, Brett Deacon was shown a yellow card for a technical offence when the Tigers were defending a late Jets' surge.
Down 3-37 at the break, the Jets started the second half with some spirit, James making two good runs down the right. There was no scoring for eight minutes, but the fourteen-man Tigers added another try when Cornwell chased his own kick to find Noone in support to dive over.
Harrison impressed with a strong run, then James thought he'd sent Royle in for a try in the clubhouse corner, but there was an unfortunate knock on just before the 'score'. The game went through an untidy spell, with no scoring for sixteen minutes, but on 64 minutes the Tigers' scrum dominance set up Noone for another try, Cornwell converting.
The tryfest continued with five more in the final ten minutes, three of them from Sale Jets. Uys joined in a ruck, releasing the ball to be sent out left to Amesbury for a try in the left corner. Shepherd couldn't convert from out wide. Tigers' replacement scrum half Phibbs replied two minutes later, making a fleet footed dart for the left corner. Cornwell converted.
Back came the Jets, with Harrison dotting the ball down at close range, Shepherd converting with six minutes left. There was still time for two more tries - the twelfth and thirteenth of the game. Lewington completed his hat trick, then Ingall replied in the game's final phase.
