Sale Sharks final two opponents, Scarlets and Wasps have had mixed fortunes in Pool 3 and a win over Scarlets next weekend would make Sale Sharks favourites to make the semi final stages for the first time since March 2007, when they lost to Leicester Tigers at the Millennium Stadium.
The competition is lucrative in that it is the fastest way to qualify for a Heineken Cup place and every win in the competition is rewarded with prize money from LV Insurance.
Sharks lost in the opening round to London Irish but in doing so secured a crucial losing bonus point. This was followed with a good win over Saracens at the Salford City Stadium in November.
Sale Sharks met Scarlets at a similar stage in the competition last February in a game played in a snow storm. Sharks ran out 19-14 winners thanks to a try by Hendre Fourie and some accurate kicking by Nick Macleod.
