Sale Sharks were led out by David Seymour who was making his 100th appearance for the club since joining from Saracens.
Sharks hit the straps early after Jonathan Mills turned the ball over after a huge hit on a Bath player. Sale went through several phases before being awarded a penalty which Danny Cipriani hooked slightly and the ball drifted off target at the last moment.
George Ford had an opportunity to open the scoring for Bath but his penalty attempt was well off target.
Sharks took the lead on ten minutes with a Danny Cipriani drop goal 3-0.
Bath hit back though with a move down the right started by Stringer who passed to Fijian winger Rokodoguni who shook off some tackles and touched down with ease. Ford converted and the visitors led 3-7.
Bath looked to have gone further ahead when Fa'osiliva intercepted a wayward pass, beat off the challenge of Phil McKenzie and touched down. Referee Small asked the TMO for his views and the try was disallowed for a foot in touch. Sharks breathed a sigh of relief and cleared their lines with a well struck kick to touch penalty by Cipriani.
Sale battled hard to get back into the game and although they had the measure of the Bath forwards it was proving difficult to penetrate the defensive line.
Play was held up on 20 minutes after a collision of head between Rob Miller and Mark Cueto. Both players had to leave the field for blood injuries and their places were taken by Sammy Tuitupou and Joe Ford. This caused Sharks to reshuffle in the backline.
Sammy Tuitupou made an instant impact down the right bulldozing his way forward and from the following phases Sharks were awarded a penalty in front of the posts which Danny Cipriani kicked with ease 6-7.
Cipriani was having an excellent game and was putting in some good work in defence, indeed one tackle on Rokodoguni caused the Fijian to knock on after he had shaken off two tackles.
Mark Cueto returned on 30 minutes, patched up after stitches in a head wound and Joe Ford went back to the replacements bench.
Sharks dominant forwards built a tremendous platform on 31 minute which ended with Mark Cueto putting Andy Forsyth in for a try in the corner. Difficult conversion for Cipriani but Danny nailed his kick perfectly.
Before the restart Rob Miller returned wearing a head bandage and Sammy Tuitupou returned to the bench. 13-7
Joe Ford reduced the arrears to 13-10 on 34 minutes after Sale were penalised at the scrum.
Danny Cipriani restored Sharks six point lead on 36 minutes with a well struck penalty from 30 metres.

Sale went further ahead with a well struck 50 +metre penalty by Danny Cipriani on 48 minutes.
On 53 minutes referee Small awarded Bath a penalty after a Tuitupou body check but Ford's kick was well off target 19-10. Ford had a chance to make amends shortly afterwards when Jonathan Mills was adjudged offside, this time Ford kicked the penalty and the gap closed to 19-13.
Sale were conceding a few too many penalties around the hour mark and Steve Diamond introduced substitute Henry Thomas for Vadim Cobilas.
Bath were playing their best spell of rugby around the hour mark and were awarded a penalty which Ford missed to the delight of the home fans. However Sharks were down to 14 men as referee Small sent Michael Paterson to the sin bin for a technical offence.
The biggest cheer of the night came on 64 minutes when Sammy Tuitupou smashed Bath hooker Batty causing him to knock on.
Bath tried to make their one man advantage count but Sharks defended for their lives and won a penalty on 67 minutes on their own line.
Paterson returned to the field after his spell in the sin bin and Sharks had done well in that they had failed to concede a point in his absence.
Sale attempted to deny Bath a bonus point on 78 minutes when they were awarded a penalty for holding on. Joe Ford, who had replaced Danny Cipriani lined up the kick but his attempt struck the upright.
Sharks fought hard to the end and were rewarded with a hard earned win.
