Alasdair Dickinson moved north from Gloucester in the summer of 2011, but had a frustrating first season at Edgeley Park as a shoulder injury brought a premature end to his campaign.

He had made nine appearances to that point, which proved him to be the “great signing” Steve Diamond vowed he would be.

The former Heriot’s pupil joined Edinburgh in 2004, moving to Kingsholm three years later. During his time with the Cherry and Whites, he made 60 appearances, scoring three tries.

A Scotland international through the age groups, he earned his first full cap as a replacement against New Zealand in the 2007 World Cup, came off the bench in the Calcutta Cup win against England for his second and made his first start against France two years later.

He has gone on to win over 20 caps for his country and would have been a part of Scotland’s Six Nations squad in early 2012 had the afore-mentioned injury not intervened to end his season early.
