Though Sam Tuitupou led the side with distinction in his first season as a Sale player, there can be few who begrudge David Seymour being handed the role of captain after another impressive campaign for the club.

After moving north from Saracens in 2009, he enjoyed a brilliant first season in which only two players in the Premiership made more tackles than him.

Unfortunately though, 2010/11 was almost a write-off as injury limited him to just six league outings.

He returned last season with 21 Premiership appearances, 15 of which he managed the full 80 minutes and was voted the Supporters’ Player of the Year.

David progressed through the ranks at Vicarage Road and went on to make 105 first-team appearances for Sarries after making his debut in 2004, just a few weeks after signing a full academy contract.

With international experience at U21 and A level, David is also something of an expert in the Sevens code, playing alongside former Shark Mathew Tait, now at Leicester, in the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.
