Like Jordan Davies, Tom Holmes is back with the Sharks for a second spell and has been reunited at Carrington with James Gaskell, who he captained when both came through the ranks at Sandbach together.

After picking up an injury, Tom was released from the Sale academy in 2009 but a spell playing out in South Africa reinvigorated him and after returning to domestic action with Sedgley Tigers and Cheshire, he re-signed for the Sharks academy on the same day Ross Harrison and Tommy Taylor also joined up.

A strapping lock or flanker, he made his debut for the first team last season after saying: “South Africa matured me: I wasn’t the biggest fish. You get knocked about a bit and learn that the world’s bigger than Manchester.”
