Joe Ward was one of the numerous pack signings made by Steve Diamond in the summer of 2011.

He slotted into the Sharks set-up with ease, proving to an astute signing as he made 13 Premiership appearances.

A Heineken Cup winner with Wasps in 2007, he played over 160 games in the famous black and gold shirt and though New Zealand-born, he has played for the England Saxons, having qualified on residency grounds.

A strong scrummager, Joe played both NPC and Super 12 Rugby during his time in New Zealand, while also representing the All Blacks at both U19 and U21 levels.

But after captaining the latter side and securing a Super 12 contract, he became frustrated with a lack of opportunities and made the move to Wasps in the summer of 2005.
