Stockport Schools Legacy 2
Lindsey Dyson is a teacher and Key Stage One Co-ordinator at Queensgate Primary School, one of the schools to benefit from the programme. “Queensgate has been delighted with the high-quality coaching and input that we’ve received from Sale Sharks’ Community programme. The rugby coaching has been a huge benefit to our pupils, and the response from parents has been extremely positive.” In addition to the in-school rugby coaching that Sharks provided as part of the school’s Games Curriculum requirement, Sale Sharks have started up an after school rugby at the school.
Dyson continues. “We’re limited to the amount of sport we can provide within the curriculum. The after school rugby provides many of the children with an additional opportunity to play sport and hopefully keep fit and healthy.” Teachers at the school are also working with Sharks coaches so that they can ensure the long-term success of the after school club.
The Primary Link programme has also had a positive effect on the Sharks’ increased attendances. According to Marketing Manager Nathan Bombrys, “We’ve had a great response from the schools, parents and children wanting to support the Sharks on the back of the primary schools coaching. Ten schools are now active in our Kitback Scheme and two, St. Matthews CE and Pownall Green, have already sold enough tickets to earn themselves a new set of rugby kit presented on the pitch earlier this season.”
