Sale Sharks vs Gloucester Preview

Sale Sharks entertain Gloucester at the AJ Bell Stadium on Sunday afternoon (kick off 2pm) knowing that a win will keep up the pressure on the leading pack and help earn a place in the elite European Competition next term.

Mark Cueto is poised to make his 300th appearance for the Sharks in this, his final season as a player. A career that dates back to 2001 and Mark is still the Premiership’s leading try scorer with 88. Magnus Lund too is set to play in his 100th Premiership game.

Director of Rugby Steve Diamond believes that his players must win four of the final games to achieve their pre –season target. He said, “ Normally 60 points would get you into the top four but because of London Welsh and that everyone is racking points up against them that 60 points has now become 70.”

Returning from Six Nations duty Danny Cipriani said, “ We are about to take part in five cup finals and we will be targeting all of them. It’s going to be tough but we need to roll our sleeves up and get stuck in.”

In round two at Kingsholm, Sharks led at half time and came home with two points for scoring 4 tries and losing by just 7 (27-34). Danny Cipriani scored and created a try in that game and showed the rugby world he was back to his very best.

Matthew Carley is referee for the game in what will be his 27th Premiership game.

Sharks have lost their last two games, away to Leicester and Bath and Gloucester’s only win in the last four games came at home to London Welsh in Round 15.

The game will also see two of Scotland’s greatest scrum halves going head to head. Chris Cusiter of Sharks against Greig Laidlaw of Gloucester.
