Sharks & England winger Tom Roebuck grabbed a hat trick as Warren Spragg’s talented squad beat Worcester 43-7 to storm on to National Finals Day at Allianz Park next weekend.
The action started in the first minute when fellow England squad man Tom Curtis latched onto a Warriors knock on to score the game’s first try, which he converted.
The visitors’ lead lasted three minutes, with home number 8 Monks scoring in reply, Smith converting.
After this explosive start, there was no further scoring until the 27thminutes, when Roebuck went over in the corner, Curtis converting for a 14-7 scoreline.
A yellow card reduced the red-shirted visitors’ firepower, but after the break they ran in five further tries within the 35-minute half.
A turnover by Ollie Leatherbarrow led to try three from Ollie Melville on 45 minutes, converted by Curtis. Five minutes later, it was a Melville double as brother Cam came on as a replacement and scored the bonus point try with his first touch.
On the hour, Kelly and Quirke set up Jacob Ainscough for try five, converted by Curtis.
Roebuck ran in two more tries in the final six minutes, the first being a spectacular ‘length of the field’ effort.
Scoring(Warriors first): 0-7, 7-7, 7-14 (Half Time) 7-21, 7-26, 7-33, 7-38, 7-43.
Coach Warren Spragg was understandably proud of his squad’s strong performance, which qualified them for Final Placings Day at Saracens’ Allianz Park on Sunday 17th February.
“They played some exciting stuff, especially in the second half. It was great to watch,” he said.
