Sale Sharks can confirm that Nic Dolly will leave the club to join Jersey Reds on loan with immediate effect.
The England U20 hooker joined the Sharks Academy in 2016 having previously played for the New South Wales Waratahs at u15 and u17 level.
In a curious twist of fate, Nic visited his grandparents in England for two months during December 2016 and subsequently flagged up on the Sale Sharks radar. The young hooker was asked to come and train with Sale’s academy the following week and instantly impressed, securing a spot in the Sharks’ age grade team for the season and even catching the attention of the England u18 coaches.
Nic Signed a five-year deal with Sale in 2017 and has gone on to represent the club in the Premiership Rugby Cup and the European Challenge Cup over the past two seasons.
Sale Sharks Director of Rugby Steve Diamond believes this move is key to Nic’s development as a player and believes that regular first team rugby In the Championship will help Nic progress through the ranks at Sale over the next few years. He said:
“As part of Nic’s continued development, he will be joining Jersey Reds on loan for the upcoming season. Nic is a young, athletic lad and has all the qualities of a great hooker, However, I feel he needs regular game time at a high level in order for him to continue growing as a player. We wish Nic the best of luck for the year ahead and the club will work closely with the coaching staff at Jersey to monitor his progression over the season.”
The club would like to echo Steve’s words and wish Nic all the best for the upcoming season with Jersey in the Championship.
