Wasps’ visit to the AJ Bell Stadium in early October proved to be a tighter affair in the Premiership Rugby Cup. After heading in at the interval trailing by 7 points, Sale Sharks found themselves fighting a spirited Wasps side to salvage their 100% record in the Cup. Denny Solomona’s late try and a resolute Sharks defence ensured that Sale claimed their third consecutive victory in dramatic fashion in-front of almost 7,000 fans in Salford.
London Irish 22-27 Sale Sharks
Saturday 12 October, Madejski Stadium
Sale faced off against newly-promoted London Irish in their final Premiership Rugby Cup fixture ahead of the Gallagher Premiership curtain-raiser against Gloucester. The trip down to Reading provided a stern test for the Sharks side, with the home team making the stronger start of the two. It took Sale 15 minutes to get on the scoreboard, with Dan Du Preez powering through the London Irish defence to set up Simon Hammersley for his 4th try of the competition.
