After three months in the Gallagher Premiership and Heineken Champions Cup, the Premiership Rugby Cup returns for the semi-finals this February. Saturday 21 September, AJ Bell Stadium

Sale Sharks kicked off their campaign with a 39-18 victory over Northampton Saints in glorious sunshine at the AJ Bell Stadium. In the absence of any pre-season games, this fixture provided a first glimpse at 8 new signings playing together for the club, including Dan Du Preez, Simon Hammersley and Akker Van Der Merwe. With five tries scored by the Sharks, the victory over last year’s Cup winners gave Sale the perfect start to the season.

Saracens 17-36 Sale Sharks

Saturday 28 September, Allianz Park

Following on from the convincing win against Northampton Saints, Sale delivered another great performance claiming their first away victory over Saracens at Allianz Park. After trailing in the game by 12 points, the Sharks put in a dominant display to fight-back and power past Saracens for a consecutive bonus point victory in the competition, against last year’s Gallagher Premiership champions.

Sale Sharks 24-20 Wasps

Saturday 5 October, Allianz Park

Wasps’ visit to the AJ Bell Stadium in early October proved to be a tighter affair in the Premiership Rugby Cup. After heading in at the interval trailing by 7 points, Sale Sharks found themselves fighting a spirited Wasps side to salvage their 100% record in the Cup. Denny Solomona’s late try and a resolute Sharks defence ensured that Sale claimed their third consecutive victory in dramatic fashion in-front of almost 7,000 fans in Salford.

London Irish 22-27 Sale Sharks

Saturday 12 October, Madejski Stadium

Sale faced off against newly-promoted London Irish in their final Premiership Rugby Cup fixture ahead of the Gallagher Premiership curtain-raiser against Gloucester. The trip down to Reading provided a stern test for the Sharks side, with the home team making the stronger start of the two. It took Sale 15 minutes to get on the scoreboard, with Dan Du Preez powering through the London Irish defence to set up Simon Hammersley for his 4th try of the competition. Both sides exchanged scores in a closely fought 80 minutes, but Sale Sharks won the day with a last minute lineout steal from Josh Beaumont allowing them to end the match with a 22-27 to the visitors.
