Sale Sharks are pleased to reveal that coaching duo Mike Forshaw and Paul Deacon have signed contract extensions with the club.
Rugby league legends Deacon and Forshaw, who have been part of the coaching set up at the club since 2015 and 2013 respectively have both signed new contracts which will see them remain part of the Sharks coaching team until the end of the 2021/22 Gallagher Premiership season.
Sharks Director of Rugby Steve Diamond was especially pleased to secure both coaches services for the foreseeable future. Commenting on today’s announcement, he said:
“I’m really pleased that we have agreed deals with both Forsh and Deacs, they have both done a fantastic job since joining the club, which is evidenced statistically by our points for and against tally’s which are up there with the best in the league. It’s really exciting to be able to continue to work with two guys who are both ultimate professionals and a huge part of the culture here.”
Former Great Britain stand-off Deacon was delighted to have extended his stay as Attack/Skills coach at Sale, the 41-year-old said:
“I’m very pleased to have extended my stay at Sale Sharks. The next couple of years are hugely exciting and I can’t wait to see how far the group of players we now have can go. We have huge potential and hopefully I can play a small part in achieving something special for the club. The way our owners Simon, Ged and Dimes are running things is great, we have fantastic training facilities to rival the best in the world, along with a committed bunch of players that are all heavily invested in our vision. It’s a hugely positive environment and one that’s great to be a part of.”
Former Bradford Bulls teammate and Sharks defence coach Mike Forshaw, who has overseen a revolution in the Sharks defence during his seven-year spell in Manchester, was excited about the prospect of continuing the Sharks defensive development now established as one of the most successful systems in the league. He said:
“I’m delighted to have extended my time at Sale, the club has shown huge commitment to all the players and staff over these challenging times so it’s great to be able to give something back. We have some really exciting young players along with an outstanding bunch of senior players so it’s going to be really excited to challenge at the highest levels of the game. From a defensive point of view, we have made some huge strides over the last few seasons, I just want us to keep improving, and keep squeezing a little bit more out of that lemon. I’m really looking forward to concluding the season as soon as it is safe to do so.”
