Towering lock Dom Barrow ended a two year hiatus from professional rugby when he joined Sharks in February 2022.
The former Leicester Tigers and Newcastle Falcons man had quit the game in 2020 to run a firm specialising in installing electric vehicle charging points.
But after impressing Sharks coaches during a trial spell, the Sheffield-born forward, who stands at 6’8”, joined Alex Sanderson’s squad on a permanent deal.
A sporting all-rounder in his youth, Dominic spent time in the Manchester United academy as a youngster but made the swich to rugby as a teenager, joining Yorkshire Carnegie’s academy.
He captained England’s under 16 and under 18 teams before joining Newcastle Falcons in 2013. Later that year he was part of the England under 20s team that won the IRB Junior World Championship.
After a two-year stint in the north east, Dominic joined Leicester Tigers and went on to make more than 50 appearances at Welford Road.
He joined Northampton Saints ahead of the 2018/19 season, but injuries restricted his appearances, and he left the club in March 2019.
After signing for Sharks, Dom said he had unfinished business with the game, adding: “I’ve gained a far greater sense of perspective since spending a bit of time away from rugby. I believe I’m capable of international honours but I haven’t yet reached my potential.”
