Participants from Crusaders Fin Club, Sale Sharks Foundation’s Down syndrome rugby team, enjoyed a memorable day of rugby, connection and celebration at this year’s Tag Fest, held at Broadstreet RFC.
A highlight of the disability rugby calendar, Tag Fest, funded by Wooden Spoon, brings together teams from across the UK and Ireland to take part in an inclusive festival of rugby and friendship.
From playing matches to sharing the experience with team-mates and family members, the event, now in its third year, was the biggest yet – with more than 400 children and young people with disabilities in attendance.

Attendees, including our Crusaders, had the opportunity to experience what it feels like to go on tour and be a rugby player for the day, taking part in an opening ceremony, rounds of games and then receiving medals in an official presentation.
Wooden Spoon also welcomed its Patron, HRH The Princess Royal, who met players, families, coaches and volunteers, adding to a truly memorable occasion.
As the day ended with a celebratory disco, players, families and volunteers came together to reflect on a powerful celebration of inclusion, friendship and the impact of rugby in bringing communities together.

Louisa Smith, Sale Sharks Foundation’s Down Syndrome Development Officer for Crusaders Fin Club, said:
“Tag Fest was a fantastic celebration of inclusive rugby, and we were incredibly proud to see our Crusaders Fin Club participants once again involved in such a special occasion. Opportunities like this mean so much, giving them the chance to play, socialise and make lasting memories.
“We’re incredibly grateful to Wooden Spoon for organising such a fantastic event, and to MBNA for their continued support of our Crusaders Fin Club programme.”
