Here at Sale Sharks, we’re proud of our heritage and the amazing milestones we’ve achieved and we’re always looking at ways which we can use that to inspire communities in the North West. The project uses our sporting history to promote inclusion and engage children and young people to support skills development and empower older people to reconnect through memory sharing activity.

1,400 children aged 9-11 from 24 primary schools within areas of Greater Manchester will engage in a six-hour education programme that promotes heritage understanding and awareness. Learn about the history of rugby, the amazing heritage of our Sale players and rugby’s role in championing equality and diversity over the past 100 years.

The project will support young adults on our advantage programme to improve their employability skills through completing an accredited employability qualification and participating in volunteering placements.

Wellbeing: Recognising Covid-19’s impact on loneliness and social isolation within older people, ‘Inspiring Generations’ will deliver rugby union’s first reminiscence programme in the North West. A permanent ‘online’ session will take place weekly, with in-person activities delivered in-line with guidelines from sites including the club’s former Heywood Road base.

Personal Development: The project will support young adults on our Advantage Programme to improve their employability skills through completing an accredited employability qualification and participating in volunteering placements within ‘Inspiring Generations’ activity.

Inspiring Generations is funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund
