COACH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

COACH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

SALE SHARKS ACADEMY COACH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME.

Sale Sharks Academy Coach Development Programme is designed to support the development of coaches who are part of the Sale Sharks Academy Pathway. Our aim is to provide excellent coaching, every time, for every player in the Academy pathway.

The programme allows access to high quality coach development sessions to support coaches and teachers own continuing professional development (CPD). These sessions are designed and delivered by Academy and performance staff whilst also being linked to England Rugby. All evenings are held at Sale Sharks High Performance Training Centre Carrington.

Observation sessions and Individual Development Plans will provide pathway coaches with enhanced skills, new ideas and increased knowledge on how to develop our Sharks DNA to meet the needs of players at the appropriate stage in their development. These sessions will involve observation of an SDG training session with the opportunity to question Sharks Academy staff around the sessions, theory and general coaching points.

To provide current information that is accessible at all points, a central resource will provide our pathway coaches with all the information they need to deliver and develop whilst part of this programme. This and will include Sharks specific resources, pathway information, national programme information, relevant literature, a discussion forum and information about upcoming CPD events. The aim of this resource is to provide the background information to continually support, challenge and develop out coaches knowledge and beliefs.

This multifaceted approach aims to offer different perspectives on coaching, challenge beliefs and to make development as accessible as possible; enhancing delivery throughout the DPP & SDG pathways, ensuring the best possible talent development environments.

COACH MENTORING PROGRAMME – ACADEMY PATHWAY DDP/SDG COACHES

The Sale Sharks Academy Coach Mentor Programme purpose is to help our academy pathway coaches raise their effectiveness. Our mentoring process is about facilitating, modifying and improving current skills and competencies, increasing knowledge on how to develop our Sharks DNA, learning new skills and strategies, and overcoming personal and situational challenges and barriers.

Our Coach Mentoring Programme will require the coach and mentor to have agreed to develop a plan to work on selected skills and strategies in the coach’s repertoire. An Academy mentor will also have knowledge and skills which will be of assistance to the coach both in improving their coaching skills and personal capabilities. Our mentors will also have rugby development related knowledge and have coached within this environment. This means our mentors will have experience and a sound understanding of the pressures and frustrations, as well as the excitement and successes, which accompany a coach on their journey within the Sale Sharks Academy.

Our coach mentoring process is designed with the intention of helping our pathway coaches to improve their level of performance and understanding of the coaching process through guidance, encouragement, data and feedback.

Finally through this process we will use existing club and school links to identify potential DPP and pathway coaches at the earliest possibility. This means that we can begin to mentor and develop the next generation of coaches, before they are delivering within the pathway. Ultimately helping us to provide excellent coaching, every time, for every player in the Academy pathway
