MATCH PREVIEW – Sale Sharks Women v Gloucester-Hartpury Women

Sale Sharks Women host Gloucester-Hartpury Women at the Corpacq Stadium (Heywood Road) at 2pm this Saturday in Round 3 of the Premier 15s.

After a sapping loss on the road to Exeter Women, the Sharks are back in their Northern hunting ground and ready for action this weekend.

Mclean and Yorke’s ladies will be looking to build on their last home performance, a close but high scoring defeat to Worcester that saw positives in attack and defence.

The visitors – Gloucester-Hartpury Women – narrowly beat Sharks 17-14 in their first encounter last season, ceding two sin bins in the process. It was a different story later in the season however, the Cherry and Reds inflicting a 7-26 defeat upon Sharks at Heywood Road.

This weekend, Gloucester venture up north with a point to prove. Having led local rivals Bristol Bears Women at half-time last Saturday, the hosts eventually lost 17-24 after conceding from a lineout maul in the 78th minute.

Just missing out on a play-off spot last year, Gloucester might fancy themselves tough meat to swallow for the Sharks. But meeting the Cherry and Reds on their first away game of the season, the Sharks will be determined to exploit their rival’s weaknesses and claim their first victory of 2021/22.
