Sale Sharks Women were defeated by Wasps at Chester RUFC in round 15 of the Allianz Premier 15s
A rampant Wasps side scored nine tries against Sale Sharks Women in pristine conditions at Chester RUFC.
Sharks conceded five unanswered tries in a dominant first half from the visitors, but added two of their own in a second-half that saw them reenergised by tactical replacements.
There were several stand-out performances for Wasps. On the wing, Ellie Boatman showed buckets of pace to score both sides of half-time, scything round the outside on both occasions.
In contrast, hooker Cliodhna Moloney had a strong game in the tight, collecting a charge down for her first try and steering the impressive Wasps maul for her second, again, both sides of half time.
Fly-half Meg Jones also scored a double, picking the perfect line to cut across for her first score and reacting first to a loose Sharks turnover to poach her second.
Despite a near-total performance from Wasps however, Sharks’ two tries were very well-taken.
The first, a tap-and-go penalty from substitute Jess Roberts, caught everyone on the pitch napping as the welsh scrum-half sprinted towards the line unimpeded.
Sharks second was forged by Lauren Delany, who drew several Wasps defenders as Sharks launched an attack off the back of a scrum before offloading out the back to Hollie Bawden who collected the ball low to finish.
Overall however, it was Wasps’ day on the Chester RUFC artificial pitch, and the Londoners leave with the bonus point victory.
Sale Sharks Women’s next game is away to Saracens Women on Sunday 6th March.
