Sharks Women sign Scot Shona

Sale Sharks Women have signed versatile Scottish international back Shona Campbell on a one year deal.

Shona, who can play scrum-half or on the wing, has represented Great Britain at sevens level and played nine times for the full Scotland side.

The 24-year-old first picked up a ball at the age of five at Montrose Rugby Club, and she played there until the age of 14, when she turned her attentions to netball.

Shona returned to touch rugby as the youngest member of the Scottish mixed team who obtained bronze in the World Cup finals in Malaysia in 2019.

She received her first call-up to the full Scotland squad ahead of the 2021 Women’s Six Nations.

Sharks Head Coach Tom Hudson said: “Shona came from Sevens so we know she has fantastic core skills.

“She’s incredibly quick and agile with the ball and she can make an impact from either scrum-half or the wing. She’s someone we’re really excited about and we can’t wait to see her pull on a Sharks shirt.”

Shona said: “Sale is a great environment to be a part of. The players are really driving standards, and everyone is striving for the same thing and I’m looking forward to taking on this new challenge.

“I want to push myself, test myself against the best players in the world and be the best player I can be, and coming to Sale gives me the chance to do that.

“I’m really excited about working with these coaches. They are so passionate, and they want to drive standards and create a winning culture at the club.

“So much investment is going into the women’s team at Sale and it feels like a new start. It’s a really exciting time for the club and it’s brilliant to be a part of it.”

With the Sale Sharks Women’s fixtures announced this week, tickets are on sale now to see Shona and the rest of the side in both the PWR Cup and league.
