MATCH REPORT | SALE SHARKS WOMEN 46-17 LEICESTER TIGERS WOMEN

Sale Sharks Women opened their PWR campaign in style with a comprehensive win in front of a sell out crowd at the Morson Stadium.

It took just six minutes for Sale to impose themselves and it was the perfect start to Amy Cokayne’s debut for her new club, the driving maul earning the first Sale points of the season and her first points for the club.

Tries followed quickly for the hosts. Erica Jarrell-Searcy scored spectacularly, rounding four defenders and running in from just inside the Tigers half before a second driving maul made the score 17-0 inside 20 minutes.

Then it was the wingers turn to get involved. Holly Thorpe flew in down one side before Rhona Lloyd made it a try on her debut, dotting down on the other wing before another driving maul score and a Tigers try to end the half, making the score 34-5.

Amy Relf made sure Sale picked up the second half where they left the first, darting through a gap outside the 22’ and flying all the way to the try line. Trudy Cowan forced her way through two tackles to extend the Sale lead to 46-5 before Katie Childs received back-to-back yellow cards either side of a Leicester score, one for not rolling away and a second for collapsing a maul as it reached the try line leading to a penalty try.

Full time left Sale at the top of the table after a commanding 46-17 victory with Sunday’s fixtures to play and a sell out crowd heading home very happy with their start to the season.

The fan’s next opportunity to watch their team at home will come in two weeks time, as Ealing Trailfinders head north on 8th November. Tickets are available here, with under 17s able to attend for just £1.
