Sale Sharks can confirm that the club strongly opposes a proposed plan to introduce a dedicated cycle lane on the A57 Liverpool Road approaching the CorpAcq Stadium.
The proposed plans from Salford City Council would see the road leading from junction 11 of the M60 reduced from three lanes to two to incorporate the additional cycle lane.
However, the club believes this would cause major congestion to a crucial route that is already hugely busy on matchdays and during peak hours, and be damaging to both our work to encourage more people to attend the stadium and to local residents.
We recognise the health benefits of a cycle lane, but having worked so hard over the past ten years to try to alleviate barriers to access that have previously blighted us on matchdays and caused dissent amongst our fanbase, we feel this is a step towards making this an untenable venue for us.
Temporary roadworks on that section of road have already caused huge problems and we fear this would only get worse if the permanent change was made.
We urge the council to reconsider these plans immediately. To view the plans, click here.
If you wish to join us in objecting to these proposals, write to Fiona Ledden, City Solicitor: PO Box 532, Town Hall, Manchester, M60 2LA or phlegal@manchester.gov.uk by 2 February 2026 quoting reference JUH/SCC006/01356.
You must explain the grounds for your objection. Please feel free to include whatever information you feel relevant, but for ease, we suggest the following:
“I strongly oppose the proposed plan (reference JUH/SCC006/01356) to build a cycle lane on the A57 Liverpool Road. I know how much work has gone into improving supporters’ journeys to the stadium but I believe this plan will set the club back years and cause major congestion on what is the main route to the stadium, not just on matchdays but at peak times too. I love my club but this will have a detrimental effect on my ability to attend future Sale Sharks home fixtures.”
