Leeds-born Obi, 22, joined Sale on a three-year deal in 2023 after impressing on trial the previous year when the Yorkshire Carnegie Academy folded.

He became Shark #365 when he made a try-scoring debut in the Prem Rugby Cup in September, 2023, but his big breakthrough came this season when he starred in a Champions Cup win over the HollywoodBets Sharks.

Obi initially combined his rugby with studying for an Accounting and Finance student at Newcastle University Business School before going full-time at Sale in 2024/25.

Obi said: “Sale was the first club to give me the opportunity to live out my dream and become a professional rugby player and I’ll be forever grateful for that.

“It has been a huge honour to represent this great club and I can’t thank everyone at the club enough. I’ve always felt the love and support of the fans and the owners – Michelle, Simon and Ged – and the coaches, players and staff have made my time here unforgettable.

“The decision to leave has been incredibly difficult but I feel that at this stage in my career it’s the right time to take a leap of faith and try and make a name for myself.

“I’m currently injured but I’m working really hard to get fit so I can play a part in ending the season on a high.”
