TOM CURRY SIGNS NEW SHARKS DEAL
Sale Sharks and England flanker Tom Curry has signed a new contract, extending his time with the club he has represented since making his senior debut as an 18 year old.
The 28-year-old made his professional debut for Sharks in the Champions Cup in October 2016, becoming the fourth-youngest player and the youngest Sale player to have ever appeared in the competition.
Just two weeks later he scored on his PREM debut making him the third-youngest scorer in the competition. Tom and twin brother Ben’s performances in that first season led to them being named as joint recipients of the Young Player of the Season award.
In total Tom has played more than 125 games for Sale, won 71 England caps and represented the British and Irish Lions on six occasions across two tours.
The new agreement keeps Tom, who has established himself as one of the leading back-row forwards in world rugby, at Carrington until at least 2028.
Tom said: “Sale Sharks means everything to me and this is the club I have supported my whole life. From a young age I can remember going to Edgeley Park and now to be able to replicate my heroes growing up is something that is hard to put into words.
“To be able to say I can do that with my brother every week and my family up here makes it even more special.
“I’m very proud of the hard work we’ve put in over the last ten years to get the club to where it is now, but I know how much more we have to give and that’s the reason I want to stay. There’s no place I would rather be.”
Sharks Director of Rugby Alex Sanderson said: “Tom has been in some of the best environments in the world with England and the British and Irish Lions, and it was him who said we have to keep this core group of senior players together.
“He’s as fit and as fast as he’s ever been and his capacity to work and impact the game both sides of the ball is incredible.
“He’s fundamental to us in terms of being the cornerstone of that core group and I’m delighted he’s staying because we want him to finish his career at Sale.”
