The Sale Sharks Foundation is committed to improving the wellbeing of communities across the North West, and our HeadStart programme is a shining example of that. HeadStart is a free-to-access, inclusive physical activity programme designed to promote positive mental health through safe, structured, and consistent exercise.
What is HeadStart?
This programme offers participants a welcoming and supportive environment to engage in regular physical activity, helping to improve both physical fitness and mental wellbeing. With a focus on inclusivity, the sessions are tailored to be accessible to all, regardless of ability or background.
Each one-hour session includes:
- A warm-up to prepare the body and mind
- Engaging and inclusive fitness or sport activities suitable for all participants
- Health and wellbeing workshops to encourage positive mental health habits
- A social space for participants to connect and support each other

Where is HeadStart Available?
The programme is currently running across Manchester, Salford, and Trafford, bringing much-needed opportunities for free, structured exercise and mental health support to local communities.
