SHARKS COMBINE WITH ENERGY GIANT TO TACKLE MENTAL HEALTH STIGMA

Sharks Community Trust is excited to announce that they will be launching an exciting new project to improve the mental health of young people thanks to a generous grant from Ørsted’s Burbo Bank Extension Community Fund.

Ørsted, which operates the Burbo Bank Extension wind farm off the coast of the Wirral, has provided a grant of £12,000 to fund the 12-month project ‘Tackle It’.

‘Tackle It’ aims to tackle and address the stigma that surrounds mental health and will encourage 12-18-year olds to engage in conversation in order to help them lead a happier and healthier lifestyle.

Coaches from the award-winning Sharks Community Trust began the project at the beginning of March and will be delivering 12-week programmes in schools within the Wirral area.

Vicky Irwin Community Development Manager quotes,

“We’re incredibly grateful to Ørsted, their support with this exciting mental health project.  We are confident that the work we will be delivering will have a significant impact on many young people within the community.

“We know how powerful sport is to help to combat poor mental health, which is becoming a pertinent issue for young people within our communities. This project will have a positive impact on these young peoples’ lives in Wirral and we’re excited to get this project underway.”

Imran Nawaz, Ørsted’s Stakeholder Advisor and Community Benefit Fund Manager, said:

“It’s fantastic to see a project seeking to tackle a relevant and current challenge that faces many young people nationally and wider, and we look forward to seeing this project take shape in the area.”
